Advent is the season of expectant waiting and preparation for the “coming” of Jesus at Christmas. How do you prepare? Consider joining the parish community for an Advent Retreat facilitated by Fr. Jim Galluzzo on December 7th from 9am to 1pm. The Retreat theme is Compassion. How to be compassionate during the Christmas hecticness? All adults are welcome. for questions or to RSVP, contact Kim Zea at firstname.lastname@example.org or 503-222-2055.
The Feast of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary
This year the Feast of the Immaculate Conception is not a holy day of obligation due to it falling on a Sunday. STM will observe this feast day on Monday, December 9th with Mass at 6:30 AM. All are welcome!
The Giving Tree
The 2013 Giving Tree has arrived! This year St. Thomas More will provide Christmas gifts to 20 families in need at St. Andrew Nativity School. The tree is decorated with 3-part tags labeled with a gift requested by the children and parents. Also, tags are labeled with $10, $20, and $50 for cash donations. Any tag you choose helps toward our efforts to bring joy to these families on Christmas day. Please consider taking a tag (or two) to help these families. All gifts and cash are due back by December 15th. If you have questions, please call Robin Becic at 503-297-4639 or Marilyn Whitaker at 503-799-6418.
Religious Education (R.E.)
Religious Education classes for children in grades 1-5 will meet in the Parish Hall on Monday evenings from 6:45pm until 8:00pm. These classes are designed for both Non-Catholic and Catholic school children. For information, call Kim Zea at 503-222-2055 x-14.
(Ages 3 to Kindergarten)
The Little Angels Sunday Preschool is on Sundays during the 10am Mass. Parents may drop their children off at the STM School Kindergarten room door and return after Mass to pick up. Children will not be dismissed until a parent arrives to pick their child up. Parents of participating families will be expected to take turns being classroom helpers. WE are in NEED of a full-time Sunday Preschool teacher. If you love this age group and have the ability to teach the gospel message, please contact Kim Zea or Margaret Schuster at the parish office 503-222-2055. A stipend is included with this position.
Children’s Liturgy of the Word (CLOW)
All Parish children, grades 1-5, are invited to join us during the Liturgy of the Word at the 10am Mass. During this time the children will hear the Sunday readings in a story they will understand. They will have an opportunity to share with each other what Christ’s message is for all of us. The children will return to Mass to rejoin the congregation at the Liturgy of the Eucharist.
This year, we are ordering copies of Magnifikid for the children of our parish. These are weekly booklets that our children can read during Mass to help them understand the Gospel. A box of booklets will be located at the entrance of the church. Please encourage them to take only that week’s booklet. Your child may bring a copy home after Mass.
Teens in grades 6-8 will gather twice a month for fellowship. We are excited about our new program here at STM for all our parish teens, including both STM School students and students from other local area schools.
