New Church Directory

STM is putting together a pictorial directory to draw our church family closer together, to create a tool for telling people about our ministries, and to celebrate our church.  We will begin scheduling appointments this week for photography beginning Wednesday, May 13th.  There is no cost to the church and no sitting fee for your family.  You will receive a complimentary 8 x 10 portrait and a copy of the directory for participation.  You will be photographed, choose your pose for the directory and have the chance to make additional purchases all in one trip to the church.  Please sign up during the next 3 weeks.  Our directory won’t be complete without you!

Building Homes, Building Lives

St. Thomas More parish is in need of ten volunteers on Saturday, April 25th to help with Habitat for Humanity’s Interfaith Build at Trillium Court in the Hillsdale area of SW Portland.  The site location is: 2374 SW Vermont St., Portland, OR  97219.  Each volunteer must register online at http://vhub.at/stthomasmorepar.  If you have questions, please email Tor Ostrom at tor@habitatportlandmetro.org.

 

Religious Education (R.E.)

Religious Education classes for children in grades 1-5 meet in the Parish Hall on Monday evenings at 6:45pm.  These classes are designed for both Non-Catholic and Catholic school children.  For more information, contact Kim Zea at kzea@stmpdx.org or call 503-222-2055.

 

 

Little Angels Sunday Preschool (2 1/2 – 4 1/2 years)

The Little Angels Sunday Preschool meets on Sundays during the 10am Mass.  Parents check their preschool children in at the church entrance and then be seated.  The children will exit the church right after the opening prayer and go to the Kindergarten classroom during Mass.  Preschool childen will be picked up at the Kindergarten classroom door after Mass.  Parents of participating families will be expected to take turns being classroom helpers.  If you have questions, contact Kim Zea at kzea@stmpdx.org or call 503-222-2055.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word (CLOW)

All parish children in grades K-5 are invited to join us during the Liturgy of the Word at the Sunday 10am Mass.  During this time, the children will hear the Sunday readings in a story they will understand.  They will have an opportunity to share with each other what Christ’s message is for all of us.  The children will return to Mass to rejoin the congregation at the Liturgy of the Eucharist.

Volunteer Opportunities

We have new dates in 2015 for parishioners to volunteer at the Blanchet House soup kitchen. Sign-up sheets are located in the church entries.  We are committed to providing 10 volunteers each time. Children who volunteer with a parent must be in the 6th grade or older. To sign up, please call Kim Zea at 503-222-2055. If a conflict arises and you’re unable to fill your spot, please contact Kim.

Shawl Ministry

The Shawl Ministry meets once a month.  Jeannie Vermilya is leading the group.  If you love to knit or crochet and would like to donate your work to those who are ill or in hospice, please contact Kim Zea at kzea@stmpdx.org or call 503-222-2055, ext. 14.
